This unique experience allows children to step back in time to life as it was 150 years ago! Participants will dress in our 19th century costumes and learn what a “day in the life” of a 19th Century child would resemble. A mix of work and play, this historic experience is like no other on Long Island.

The Junior Apprentice Program is offered in one-week sessions, Monday-Friday from 10:00am-3:00pm.

Eligible children must be between the ages of 9 & 12 and have not previously participated in this program.

Although we cannot guarantee placement, children who must car-pool together should submit their applications early & together.

Costumes are issued on Monday and must be returned on Friday. On Monday bring a bag with the child’s name written on it; this is for storing their street clothes until Friday.

Participants should wear sturdy closed shoes (no sandals) preferably black or brown. No jewelry or nail polish.

Children must bring a bag lunch. All children will break for lunch at 12 Noon. A daily snack of root beer and a pretzel will be provided around 1pm.

On the last day (Friday) of the program, parents and guardians are invited to visit with the children within the village area from 12noon-2pm. You may wish to bring a small picnic lunch.

Parents or guardians must arrange to pick up their children at 2:45pm each day inside the lobby of the Visitor Center.
