Junior Apprentice Program

This unique experience allows children to step back in time to life as it was 150 years ago! Participants will dress in our 19th century costumes and learn what a “day in the life” of a 19th Century child would resemble. A mix of work and play, this historic experience is like no other on Long Island.

  • The Junior Apprentice Program is offered in one-week sessions, Monday-Friday from 10:00am-3:00pm.

  • Eligible children must be between the ages of 9 & 12 and have not previously participated in this program.

  • Although we cannot guarantee placement, children who must car-pool together should submit their applications early & together.

  • Costumes are issued on Monday and must be returned on Friday. On Monday bring a bag with the child’s name written on it; this is for storing their street clothes until Friday.

  • Participants should wear sturdy closed shoes (no sandals) preferably black or brown. No jewelry or nail polish.

  • Children must bring a bag lunch. All children will break for lunch at 12 Noon. A daily snack of root beer and a pretzel will be provided around 1pm.

  • On the last day (Friday) of the program, parents and guardians are invited to visit with the children within the village area from 12noon-2pm. You may wish to bring a small picnic lunch.

  • Parents or guardians must arrange to pick up their children at 2:45pm each day inside the lobby of the Visitor Center.
